The several hundred items that comprise the University Photograph collection have been moved from the photograph store into room 126. This was done as both a conservation measure and to maximize the use of space (what previously occupied six map cabinets now occupies 6 archives boxes and a few drawers). I have also cross referenced the collection on the database so that there is an obvious link between the negative, the photograph and the digital image (where it exists).
Excellent work Jeff, what will be going in the photograph store now? I’m happy to offer my thoughts on what we could put down there.
Thanks for your comment! Currently there are still a lot of photographs in the photograph store, but if all goes according to plan they will all be moved out in time. Unfortunately the photograph store is at high risk of catastrophic disaster what with it being underground and prone to flooding from above and below! Eventually it is likely that the poster collection from the newspaper room will go down to the photostore and we will use the newspaper room (a somewhat more secure space in some respects) for documentary archives. Nothing is set in stone though so any and all suggestions will be gratefully received. There will still be a lot of space in the basement photostore even if we move the posters down there, including a number of empty map cabinets that could be used for flat storage.
