The 360 Search implementation group has had its first meeting.
We decided that at our next meeting (9th October), we will work through the 360 Search customisation list, and make some decisions about what interface options and customisations we should select.
The 360 Search customisation list, connection list instructions and customisation form are available on the Camelot federated search page.
We are looking at using the UC Databases web page as a basis for subject groupings. We may need to look at breaking down some of these, e.g. Social Sciences. We will also pull together a list of key databases (using what is on “Key databases” on existing subject portals as a guide) to determine which databases should be included.
There is a maximum of 50 databases (connectors) that we can include in the 360 Search profile, so we will have to make some pragmatic decisions. We also need to look at integrating the Library Catalogue, and local databases such as IR and Digital Library. We also need to consider whether or not to add other resources like Google or Google Scholar.
Comments are welcome during this implementation phase. We envisage that there will be ongoing tweaking once Caroline’s group gets into its work, and Library staff start testing the service.
