Libraries in 2017

If you’re curious how our users see us – we set up a display at Engineering Library in Library Week asking users:

“In 2017 libraries will be…
Tell us what you see in our future!”

This was based on National Library’s campaign at LIANZA 2007. Like them, I uploaded photos of the responses to a Flickr photoset but to save on bandwidth I’m also typing them below (click on ‘read more’).

(In no particular order, and the visual effectiveness of some suffers in conversion to text…)

  • no books, only electronic resources
  • Open for 24 hours! (smiley face in the capital “O”)
  • All the information you need, online, viewed in a My Library space created by and for YOU!
  • close down!!! All book resources will be electronically through internet! Library staffs will be… 🙂 -> 🙁
  • Technology based storage centres. Special collections.
  • a home to African lions… and maybe elephants too, if they are big enough.
  • Wiki
  • All shiny metal and glassness + quiet windows, librarians w/ foil uniforms and pointy hats + dinosaurs.
  • QUIET!
  • without staff 🙂
  • Destroyed! – useless as well coz robots rule!
  • Virtual! Existing only in Cyberspace.
  • Be…. NO Libraries anymore
  • With More Toilets
  • Where ensoc will host BBQ’s
