Everything you ever wanted to know about putting items on display

There have been a few changes recently with the reports that add and remove items from the new books and special displays. Here is some information that will help staff who work with displays.

All the reports that you need are on the book display report page which is reached from Camelot > Horizon Reports > Horizon Database Changes > Book Displays. The reports are grouped so that all the New books reports are separate from the Special Display report.

To put items on the new book display, select the report “Put new books on display”. Scan in the barcodes, and the report will update collection, itype and item status. If you want to remove a particular item from the display, use the report “Remove selected item from new book display” and scan in the barcode. If you want to remove all items from the new books display, use “remove all books from display”. This will remove them all at once and no further scanning is required. Note that both these reports will restore collection and itype settings to the original, and you just need to check them in to pick up any requests and restore the item status to “In Library”.

The special display reports work in much the same way. Items are added to a display through the “Put books on special display” report. This is also where you name the report. You can then get a list of all items on that display by running the “List books on special display” report. As with the new books display, you can remove selected items or all items using the two Remove items reports.

A reminder about naming Special Displays. Please remember to make your display name distinct. We would like display names to begin with the Library name, i.e. PSL Top Scientists. We currently have 3 displays about Edmund Hillary and when this happens there is a risk that the wrong report will be removed.
