In the past we have had an annual IT update with James Oxnam before the academic year began. I discussed this with Sean Lowry last week and we both agreed that nothing significant had changed.
ICTS have updated their web pages which are now much easier to follow.
There is also a very good pamphlet called Ready Set Go! which matches the web pages. All service desks should have copies of this pamphlet which is available from the IT Help Desk or the Loft, and all staff should be familiar with the basics outlined here.
And from Sean:
As we surmised the other day, there aren’t many things to update you on w.r.t. the services/facilities ICT provides. There have been a number of ‘behind the scenes’ changes to the network infrastructure, but these are transparent to most users, unless something goes wrong of course!
The biggest change student-workrooms-wise is the availability of new iMacs in the Loft (11 computers), the Crypt (about 90 – all the Crypt computers were replaced), and several of the Avon/Otakaro workrooms (approx. 22 in each room). They are nice to use, and have the advantge of being able to run the Mac system as well as Windows, which the majority of them are running.
Apart from this, and the arrival at the Library helpdesk of the ICT Helpdesk advisor, which you know about already, it’s business as usual.
