change to Journals web page link

After consultation with Janette, I am about to change where the Journals link in the left navigation bar of every web page goes to. It will now go to the Serials Solutions journals page http://gr2tq4rz9x.search.serialssolutions.com/, instead of our intermediary page http://library.canterbury.ac.nz/journals/

The addition of print holdings to the Serials Solutions lists has meant that this is now the easiest way for users to search for journals, as print and electronic holdings are displayed from the one record. Our print holdings will be updated regularly, and while the holdings are not 100% comprehensive, they are comprehensive enough. Missing records are either really old or very ephemeral, and are the types of records that probably needed specialist assistance and knowledge to find on the catalogue. Work on the print journal uploads has been done, and decisions about what is included in the uploads have been made in close consultation with Collection Services.

My apologies for the lateness of the change-over; I am acutely aware that it is far too close to the start of term for comfort. We had unexpected delays in getting the Serials Solutions page to the point where it could be used for this link. It was decided that it was better to do it today than sometime after term was started.

  1. The new portal looks great and will be much more straight forward for students to use. It will be interesting to promote it in our classes and see whether students prefer to use the journal portal or the catalogue. Please take a look at the Electronic journals FAQ link. I am looking at how this needs to be updated.
