Chapters in Books and Copyright

The UC Research Repository can only include books, or chapters from books, where the author has permission from the publisher to place a copy in an institutional repository, or if the author has retained Copyright ownership of the publication. In most cases Copyright will have been transferred to the publisher, so the author will need to check the details of any signed Copyright transfer agreements, or contact their publisher to seek permission.

If researchers submit chapters to us without this information, then they cannot be approved into the Repository. Information Librarians should explain these requirements to academics when they meet to discuss the Repository.
