More on Blackboard printing

If you are tired of questions about printing from Blackboard which doesn’t work in IE7, hope is at hand. The problem should be fixed at the end of the week. Sean Lowry has given me a copy of instructions changing IE7 settings to overcome this problem. A copy is saved in k/Information Services/Service Desks/IE and Blackboard
Still easier to advise them to use Firefox in the interim.

Music Library Assignment

MUSI 131 students have been given a library assignment which requires them to find certain things on the catalogue using a variety of searches, cite references and use the electronic resource Grove Music Online. This assignment is worth 10% of their course, so if you are approached at the Desk for help, please DO NOT do the search for them, but ensure that they understand the question and the process. Perhaps demonstate an equivalent search eg with a different author/composer’s name… If in doubt, please refer them to me, or give me a ring on ext 4945. Thanks, Bronwyn.

Journal Logins

A reminder, especially for new desk staff, of where to find the relevant information if a Catalogue record says “Password needed for access, ask a Librarian”.

Look on Camelot, on the Journal Logins page, for resources whose terms and conditions prohibit us from displaying the information or require a librarian to search the resource for the user. (Journal Logins can be found from Team Portals, Collections Services or from Electronic Resources in the Quick Links panel)

Resources needing login information which can be displayed on a password-protected page for users to access themselves are found on the Journals page on the Library Web. Catalogue records have a link to this page in the form of “Password required, registered University of Canterbury users only.”

We check these passwords regularly but if you find one that no longer works, please let Serials know.

Neil Dawson Sculpture

Good morning,

Many of you will notice that there is a new sculpture hanging in the central library between levels 2 and 3. The work is ‘Lit LeWitt’, by Neil Dawson. The work is from 1994, and is made of alluminium mesh. I will install a label for this work today but have also produced a small sheet with information on the work for any staff who are interested, which can be found in Q drive/Terri.

The sculpture was installed early this morning by John and Michael from Facilities Management, who made a superhuman effort to be here at 5am to set up the scaffolding. We have used a triple wire hanging for the work so that it is secure.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me on 8669.

Thanks

Terri
