Last year Meg and I (with help from Adam and much support from many others) ran a “Library on Location” trial. We took a laptop running Horizon and a web browser, as well as various issuable materials, out to various student areas – we were aiming to promote the Library and offer a convenient and non-threatening access point for reference queries.
It was pretty simple to operate and we got good feedback. It was particularly rewarding when someone said “Oh, I didn’t know the library had videos!” or (from a general staff member) “I didn’t realise I could use the library too!”
Our full report (including user comments) is at K:\information_services\Library_on_Location\project_report_final.doc
We’re currently planning a second trial for term 2, focusing on the corridor below Reboot Cafe for a regular timeslot on Tuesday mornings. If anyone’s interested in popping along to see it in action, just give one of us a call/email – we’d love to see you there.
Thank you Deborah and Meg for sharing this report. I think this is an excellent way to inform all interested members of the Library staff about this innovation. The description and evaluation you have offered make it easy for the rest of us to understand your idea and to think about how or why we might want to develop this kind of service, or not. Thanks again.
