No part payment of Lost books

Please do NOT allow part payment of the replacement cost of a book with ‘Lost’ status on a borrower’s record. It is not the same as a fine block. ‘Lost’ block = return the item or pay the entire amount. Borrowing is blocked until the matter is resolved.
Reasons? One: if the borrower pays for the item, then subsequently finds and returns it, they may be entitled to a refund. Part payment completely muddy the waters of trying to verify that payment was made. Two: the invoice cycle (Library then Registry) starts from the date the item became lost. It is not halted or slowed down by part payment. The borrower may find themselves with an added $20 administration fee if full payment is not made in time.
