A student was trying to find a thesis on microfiche today and found the experience rather frustrating. The cat. record for this title (Bib#: 395422) – Relative growth and population biology of the purple rock crab, Hemigrapsus edwardsii [microform] – says: “Ask at Lending Desk” so he did. He was referred to the Help Desk, where we tried to help him to put a request on said item. However the system then advised: “This title is not available for requests.”
After that runaround, the student decided to forget about it and look for something else. Can’t say I blame him! Catch-22 seems to be alive and well in the 21st century…
There are 371 items in the microfiche Thesis collection that need to be collected from the Lending Desk. THey live in the three small cabinets on top of the large microfiche cabinets in the checkin area and are filed by surname of the author.
THey are 2 hour loans so can not be requested.
Thanks for this clarification. Such requests should be referred back to the lending desk then.
