As a result of a national storage agreement from the Council of New Zealand University Librarians (CONZUL), the following print indexes will be withdrawn from the Library:
Accounting & tax index
Art Index
Bibliography of Asian studies
Biological abstracts
Historical abstracts. Part A, Modern history abstracts, 1775-1914
Historical abstracts. Part B, Twentieth century abstracts, 1914-
Psychological abstracts
Philosopher’s index
RILM abstracts of music literature
Zoological record
UC is discarding these because other institutions have agreed to take responsibility for keeping them. All are available as online databases.
The Information Librarians would like to be informed before final decisions are made on these matters. We may have useful contributions to make and these decisions definitely affect us! AJ
While we do have Zoological record as an online database our records go back only to 1978.
Why are we keeping GeoRef ?
Yes, the information librarians should be consulted beforehand, or at least informed, before such decisions are finalised. Our print vols. of Art Index going back to 1929 are not available at UC via a database, and art historians and researchers do occasionally need to use them.
Are we going to get Art Index Retrospective to replace them? That would be the best outcome!
I am afraid the process does appear to have been a bit flawed on this occasion. Clearly there needs to be direct liaison with Information Librarians rather than relying on the LLT manager to consult.
With regard to Art Index, obviously we will not dispose of the paper volumes while we do not have the electronic version. At the time the original data was compiled we did have the electronic version. I have not had the opportunity to look at Zoo Record or Georef. yet.
