Almost all university computer access will be unavailable on Saturday Aug from 8.00am. This includes almost all student and staff services. ICTS anticipate that most services will be back by 11.00am barring unforeseen circumstances, but some services will not be available until 1.00pm.
At the same time the switchboard at the College of Education will be repaired. The power will be going on and off at different periods in varous CoEd buildings from 8.00am – 1.00pm. The Education Library will remain open as emergency services such as firealarms will be on battery backup.
Horizon, the catalogue, access to databases and the Library Web will not be affected, but it may be difficult to login to get to them on campus. Lin from Library IT will come in to get some of the branches Lending desk PCs working. Priority will be given to Education (as it is term time) and Central then other branches.
ICTS will provide a Helpdesk person in the Central Library from 10.00am to 1.00pm. If there are problems they will stay later. This will be confirmed closer to the time.
Digital Library and UC Research Repository will not be available during this time. The Digital Library server will be upgraded while everything is down and will be one of the later machines to be restored.
This work is part of the changes required to move to the new Data Centre and to repair the problems in the College of Education switchboard that created the last power outage.
Please watch the comments for further information.

Since this message was posted we’ve had another update from ICTS, confirming systems that will be unavailable. Things that affect the Library are:
Student logins – Most students won’t be able to login. Some might still be able to login, but might not be able to access all the software they need.
Library staff logins. You may be able to login partially, on a computer that you have used to login before. Click yes on any roaming profile error message. You won’t be able to access any network drives, including your own P drive.
Eftpos transactions, Blackboard, adding money value to Canterbury cards and printing will all be unavailable.
Most University websites will be unavailable, though the Library website WILL be available. Other internet access may be available, but don’t be surprised if it’s not.
Digital Library will definitely be unavailable. We are not sure about UC Research Repository. Both should be available after 1pm.
Lin will be coming in to work at 9.30am. She will be working to get service desks working, starting with Central Library and Education Library, and then other branches.
ICTS will have a staff member here, based in Central Library, until services are re-established.
It may possible to logoff and login again with all services after 1pm, but wait to hear from Sandra and test with one PC first. Keep an eye on Counterculture.
