  1. The chat service is working, but unfortunately the meebo widget on our homepage isn’t (which of course means that nobody can reach us!). I’ve sent an email to Meebo support, but there’s not much more we can do. I’ve checked other rooms and they’re having the same problem, so hopefully Meebo will fix it soon.

  2. A further update – it appears that a newer version of flash player is required to view the widget. Some people off campus will have access, but we’ll follow up a) if Meebo can make the widget compatible with older versions of flash player again (I’m expecting they’ll get a lot of complaints!); and b) whether we need to get ICTS to install the latest version on student install machines.

  3. Wouldn’t it makes sense to get ICTS to install the newer? Otherwise we will be caught holding the fort for probably a lesser number of people who may use it from a non-UC machine.

  4. True enough but i would have hoped Flash was reasonably std given that some of the web sites we show people use it and some of our students have to programme in it.

As an interim could the current asklive widget page be changed so a sniffer detected whether they were enabled and directed them to sign on via Meebo.com if they are not? Or not worth the effort given the small number of callers?

  5. Another update – ICTS think that this has been caused by a recent Micrsoft Windows/IE patch because they’ve had other flash problems reported. They will test and push out the Flash Player again, if necessary.

Off campus and laptop users shouldn’t have any problems if they’ve got a fairly recent version of Flash Player installed.

Adam, the only problem with sending users to Meebo.com is that they need to have a registered Meebo account. It’s not worth the effort, given that the problem should (hopefully!) be fixed soon.

  6. If I try to access from the library homepage from my work PC using Firefox I get invited to download a Flash plugin from Adobe. Using IE, nothing happens.
