There are some issues getting the recycling bins emptied by cleaners in both Central and Law that we are working on with Kate.

Some staff have also noticed that the recycling is going into a single bag on the recycling truck when it is picked up and have wondered if all the effort was being undone at that point so here is Kate’s reply:

Fair not, Peter (the rubbish truck person) is sorting the bags out here at FM yard, where we have collection wheelie bins for food waste and glass/plastics/cans. We do have plans for a slightly different collection vehicle in future which will more easily keep waste types separate. In the mean time, as food and g/p/cans volumes increase as more buildings are switched over, Pete is going to start carrying wheelie bins in the truck to put the items straight into (I talked with him this morning and I think he’s going to start doing that from today).

You’ll also start to notice in some of the waste collection points, particularly the ones in loading bays, including Engineering and Central libraries, that a lidded green bin will be placed there specifically for cleaners to put food waste into, to make it quicker for Pete to pick items up and to protect the food bags from any hungry animals!
