Over the last few months we have been trialling a number of different platforms for some of our e-resources – namely OVID and EBSCO. As a result of these trials it has been decided by the Datasets Group that we will move PsycInfo, PsycArticles and RILM Abstracts for Music Literature from CSA to the EBSCOHOST platform for 2009. Thank you for taking the time to try the alternatives and for the helpful feedback you provided. Financial constraints have meant that we were limited in the number of changes we could make at this time. However your comments have been noted and we will bear these in mind for any future changes. I will shortly be able to confirm our other new products scheduled for 2009.

I am concerned about more titles moving to Ebsco. Ebsco prohibit ALL supply of Interloans regardless of format and this restriction is unnecessarily prohibitive. Vicki will question the Ebsco rep. about this soon. I will also raise it at the November meeting of the CONZUL sponsored Interloans here. While the electronic age does improve access to lot of material, particularly historical items, it is also restricting access to more recent items.
I can’t resist using this as a plug for the various ways we have of creating dynamic links on web pages to databases and journals!
When we move these databases to Ebscohost, ALL links on any web page to these databases (or journals accessible via these databases) will need to be updated. If these links are already created using one of the dynamic methods, this will be done automatically – no need for any human intervention after the catalogue has been updated. Any links created any other way will have to be found and updated manually!
If you know you have links that will need to be updated manually, why not take the time to talk to me about how to convert them to one of the dynamic methods. Do it once now and hopefully you won’t need to do it again in the future.
