English Language Centre students

Students enrolled in English Language Centre (ELC) courses have Canterbury cards that look exactly the same as other UC student cards but there is an underlying difference. All undergraduate records from Jade have 108 days added onto to the student’s course end date. For most undergraduates enrolled for 2 semesters, this means that their library record expires around February of each year and this matches the date printed on their card e.g. 02/09.
ELC student cards also have this kind of date on their Canterbury card, but in their case it represents a POTENTIAL end date rather than an actual end date. Their courses end on a variety of dates throughout the year.
If Horizon is telling you that an ELC student record is expired, it is correct. Ignore the date on the card. Ask the student to pay a visit to the English Language Centre to re-enrol if they want to continue studying. NB The new enrolment details will load overnight and Horizon will be updated the following day.
