Libguides: Removing unwanted bold formatting when you are copying from existing guides ….

Marc Bertone from Springshare has provided a solution to this problem.. within five minutes of my asking him!!

The reason you cannot un-bold some of the items in that box is because they are setup as “headings” (rather than normal text), which explains why the font is larger/bolder than the other text. This also explains why selecting the text and clicking the “B” icon does not remove the “bold” formatting, since “bold” tags are not being used in that part of the box.

To undo this, just highlight the text you want to reduce and then change the format dropdown (top-left position in the editors toolbar) to “paragraph”.
If you would prefer that I flatten all the text in the box down to the normal formatting, just let me know and I will take care of it for you. In the future you can avoid these formatting problems by using the “paste as plain text” button in the editor (2nd row, 2nd to last button), which will remove the formatting and paste just the content into the box.

  1. Can I respectfully ask that you check with Library IT before you send any such enquiries to the people at Springshare. I could have answered this question (in fact, did so yesterday for another person!).

While the Springshare people are very helpful and responsive, we should be careful not to bombard them with too many questions. Also, if such questions are directed to Library IT, we can build up a body of knowledge ourselves. If we can’t answer the question, we’ll direct it to Springshare.

  2. This libguides category was set up to post questions and answers online for all to share. I look forward to useful tips you learn to be posted here, for all of us to share

  3. I see Library IT’s role as assisting with answering specific technical questions. I also agree that it is useful if subject librarians use this forum to post questions and answers – my suggestion was that you use it, or ring Library IT, to ask the questions before you send them to SpringShare. More and more we will be able to answer each other’s questions – we don’t want SpringShare answering simple questions when we can do it internally.
