I’ve been asked to put up some instructions for creating anchors in LibGuides. I do suggest that you use them sparingly – if your page is only about 2 screens in length they are probably unnecessary and just added clutter, and if your page is longer than that, you might want to consider dividing it into shorter pages.
However, there may be times when you want anchors, so this is how you create them.
It’s a 2 step process.
First you have to create an anchor in the box that you want to link to from the top list.
1) To do this click on edit text in the target box.
2) In the second line of the menu bar you’ll see an icon for an anchor. Click on this.
3) An “insert/edit anchor” box will appear. Give your anchor a name – very brief, one word, but something reasonably descriptive.
4) Click on insert.
Then go to where you want the link to this box to appear
1) Create an html link in the usual way.
2)The url for the link should start with a # followed by the name of the anchor eg #myanchor. You don’t need anything else (no http:// etc).
