This is a good opportunity to remind students of the other avenues open to them for seeking renewals when ‘My Account’ is unavailable.
1) PHONE US – Central Library was open 10 am to 10 pm on Sunday
2) COME IN – and request a renewal at a lending desk
3) RETURN THE OVERDUE: always a serious option where renewal is not available for whatever reason
Renewals are never guaranteed, so the internet problem may be irrelevant to whether they could have renewed the item.
My suggestion is that if that the fines incurred relate to this weekend only, a waiver (plus reminder above) is fair. If the fines relate to a longer overdue period (which includes the weekend) , look closely at whether the item would have been renewable – reduction maybe, but no complete waiver.
