Lately, for one reason or another, we have had depts asking for a list of theses for their dept. There does not seem to be any single way of doing this.
Any suggestions?

We can construct URLs for queries that will find all digital theses in the Repository. For example, to find all Physics and Astronomy theses, the URL would be:
http://ir.canterbury.ac.nz/…
Unfortunately it’s not obvious how to construct this search from the repository. A useful link for LibGuides, perhaps?
As for finding all theses, both print and digital… ?
Can you add a sort option to that?
If you can sign into staffpac you can search in the local call number index using Thesis (Forestry) (or whatever discipline you want) and you will get a list for that particular subject area.
Local call number index doesn’t work in HIP.

Generally seems to work for print theses but also picks up a few other bits and pieces…
e.g.
http://ipac.canterbury.ac.n…
Other suggestions?
BTW – If it doesn’t work for HIP should it be there?
I don’t know about getting a full list but usually when we’re asked this kind of question it’s a research student wanting to see examples so even a decent partial list is sufficient for them.
I usually do a keyword search with "ph.d. thesis" (to weed out M.E.s which we also have), "canterbury" (to weed out the few overseas theses we have) and the name of the degree. Eg http://ipac.canterbury.ac.n…
Nice – but seems to work better if I split in Advanced between "Title Keyword" words and "Ph.d." in keywords – For example there are a number of Elec Eng theses with astronomy in the subject heading etc.
