Returning Restricted Loans items at locations other than their home

If borrowers ask about returning Restricted Loans items at a location other than that items home location, please encourage them to return the item to the branch direct. We’ve had instances lately of 3 day loans being caught up in the Hamper system unneccessarily. It’s best if the borrower returns the item to the home branch.

  1. Also, just a reminder if you do check in a Restricted Loan item at a library that is not the the home branch (i.e. book dropped off and borrower nowhere in sight), remember not to check it in to the Restricted Loan location but rather check it into the location of the library that it is at, thus generating an In Transit status. On Sunday we spent some time searching the Law Library shelves for a Law Restricted Loan item that had been checked in at another branch but into the Restricted Loan location – according to Horizon it should have been right under our noses but to our consternation and confusion it was nowhere to be found!

  2. Our policy here at central is to also call the home library about receiving one of their restricted loans. That way someone can come and pick it up if it’s urgently required.
