When our Springer subscription was changed this year (see last year’s post) we lost the ability to have our Springer titles displaying a direct link to the article in Article Linker search results. Now only a Journal link will appear for virtually all searches involving Springer titles.
The reason for this is because it is a consortial account – Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) – outside the scope of the Serials Solutions knowledgebase. I’ve contacted Serials Solutions about it and they are investigating if it is possible to add the CAUL account to the existing Springer linking mechanism so that we regain article-level links.
Until this happens, Article Linker will take you to the Journal table of contents instead of to the article itself.

Groan! This is very unsatisfactory. I find this surprising as we are one of the last libraries to get the full Springer Collection and I don’t imagine that other libraries would have tolerated this. Please keep us posted on progress. Cynthia.
Maybe it’s more a case of us being first to identify the problem (because other libraries have not had it any other way)and a resolution will be for the benefit of all.
This is the problem with personalised subscriptions. In opting for the convenience of being able to select an entire library’s subscription (rather than selecting individual titles within Serials Solutions knowledgebase) precise linking qualities are lost. Serials Solutions is moving towards a more consortia-friendly model so these problems will no doubt be rectified.

I’m pleased to report that article-level linking for our SpringerLink titles has been enabled. That means links should now be available to go directly to the required article.
Please let me know if there are any further problems.

GREAT!
