Spam email requesting your UC email details

ICTS has warned of a message doing the rounds that attempts to get your login details. As usual, just delete it. Typically it starts like this:

Dear canterbury.ac.nz User

Your email account has been used to send numerous Spam mails recently from a foreign IP.

and then continues to threaten account suspension if you do not obey.

  1. phishing is a common web technique. Why do we fall for this? Every email that asks you to login and check your details through an url provided is phishing. Personally I must have atleast 15-20 bank of america accounts where I’ve hidden my millions from my elderly relative’s of Nigerian oil princes who are dying to let me help them.

  2. My ‘favourite’ was an ad embedded on a webpage which suggests you enter your credit card details so that it can find out for you whether or not your credit card details have been stolen.
