The University of Canterbury Library is seeking an enthusiastic fixed-term, full-time Assistant Archivist who will be based in the Macmillan Brown Library, one of the six branch libraries at the University of Canterbury.
The role of Assistant Archivist is to provide bibliographic access to the Library’s architectural drawings collection that aligns with best practice and to assist in the appraisal, arrangement and description of this collection. The main duties in this position are as follows:
• Appraise collections
• Arrange and describe the architectural drawings
• Training and Guidance for Library Assistant involved in working with architectural drawings
• Catalogue maintenance
A Bachelor’s degree, plus an approved tertiary qualification in Library and Information studies or equivalent are a requirement for this position along with a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in an archival or cataloguing role in an automated environment.
A familiarity with unpublished resources and the heritage environment would also be an advantage.
The normal work schedule for this position is as follows:
Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm (with an hour for lunch)
