The radiator in Seminar Room 2 has sprung a leak and the carpet there is now reasonably waterlogged. I have rung FM and they will come and check it out. I have also put a recycling tray under it to stem the flow but it will need to be checked every so often to be of any use. We also probably need to keep an eye on the ceiling underneath Seminar Room 2 – probably above the mopier? – to deal with any water that may also come through there. Students that were in the room seemed rather desparate for the space and were continuing to work around the water but may need to be shifted along once FM arrived.
Radiator problem hopefully fixed now. The plumber will check again at 6am. He said that FM will probably send someone during the night or tomorrow with a liquids vacuum cleaner to try & suck out some of the carpet moisture.

No show from the cleaners – apparently they were not notified by FM. Angela has rung Cleaning Services so there may be some action now. We may need to remove the damp students from the room.
The room has had the excess water vacuumed but there has been no drier put in there as promised.
When I phoned cleaning services to follow up on this it was too late in the day. Security couldn’t get hold of them on the radio.
Security will leave a message with them asking that a heater (or dehumidifier or similar) be put in there when the cleaners start work at 4.00am.

I rang Cleaning Services just after noon today. The drier has been delivered and is operating in the room. It is quite noisy so Nicola is preparing notices explaining the situation to students and apologising for the noise.

The carpet is still damp so we have the room closed again today. We have booked other campus study rooms for those who were booked to use it today. Maybe tomorrow…Nicola
