Fixed-Term, Part-Time Library Assistant Vacancy, Macmillan Brown Library

Fixed Term (July 2009 – November 2009)
Part-Time (19 Hours per Week, .51 FTE)

The University of Canterbury Library is seeking an enthusiastic fixed-term, part-time Library Assistant who will be based in the Macmillan Brown Library, one of the six branch libraries at the University of Canterbury.

The position is responsible for providing lending and other public services for the University Library. This position is based primarily in the Macmillan Brown Library and there is an expectation that you will be available to work in any of the branch libraries on campus.

You will possess previous experience with automated library systems and procedures. You will demonstrate a commitment to delivering an outstanding service to customers and have a positive attitude towards continuous improvement. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be the type of person that thrives in a dynamic environment. An understanding of Mâori and Pacific information needs and services is essential. A familiarity with unpublished resources and the heritage environment would also be an advantage.

The normal work schedule for this position is as follows:

Thursday 8:30am – 5:00pm (7.5 hours with an hour for lunch)
Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm (7.5 hours with an hour for lunch)
Saturday 1:00pm – 5:00pm (4 hours)
