There was a Project Control Group meeting this week, although not all members of the group were able to attend.
The tenders for the building work closed on Thursday at 5.00 p.m., hopefully next week there will be movement on the decision to award the contract for the project.
The start date for the project is th 16th November 2009. The roof project was sent out as part of this tender process as well and there are some issues still to be resolved around the fire rating for the roof. The new roof will be built over the existing roof, and this causes a safety issue and affects the fire rating if not done correctly.
ICTS have not had confirmation of a new area for the computers presently in the Cave to be moved too, this issue should be resolved within the next fortnight.
The Library has a number of issues around access and storage of dismantled shelving and it is hoped that these will be adressed at the next meeting.
This morning the light switch sensor in the lift bay for level 3 failed which left most of level 3 in the dark. FM have been over and replaced the faulty sensor with a new one this afternoon. Over the weekend please note if there are any problems with it. This mornings instructions about turning the lights on at the North East Stair over the weekend are not necessary unless the new one plays up. Pat Keogh assures me that it has been tested so there should be no problem.
Tim O’Sullivan
Please note that there are currently three boxes in the packing room containing books to be sent to Tonga

Some students have been asking for curriculum guidelines lately…
The curriculum guidelines for teaching Te Reo Mâori in English-medium schools is called:
Te Aho Arataki Marau mô te Ako i Te Reo Mâori – Kura Auraki : Curriculum guidelines for teaching and learning Te Reo Mâori in English-medium Schhols: Years 1-13.
This is easiest to find by keyword searching: reo maori english medium.
There are several lending copies and two in Reference.
It is available from TKI.
The draft document is called “Te Reo Mâori in the Dew Zealand Curriculum: Draft” so students expect the final version to be called this.
We also have the Mâori Curriculum. This is called:
Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
Although it is a similar layout to the “New Zealand Curriculum”, it is a separate document rather than a translation of the English document.
We have both lending and a reference copy.
Annoyingly, it is not available online though the draft is.

Message from Stephanie Box at the English Language Centre:
“I understand from the Card Co-ordinator that the Canterbury cards for ELC students are given an end date of the nearest semester based on the UC system, ie either February or July, but the records that the cards are attached to provide the ACTUAL end date that they have paid until. This is very confusing to both students and library staff but it appears that is how the card system operates. Have asked the question quite a few times about this but appears we are “different”.”
From the Library’s point of view this means that the expiry date displayed in Horizon is accurate. If an ‘expired’ ELC presents a forward dated card and wishes to borrow, please refer them to the English Language Centre for re-enrolment, but do not CKO anything.
