OCLC Training Sessions

OCLC and the National Library of New Zealand are sponsoring a series of web seminars for OCLC Cataloguing and Reference Services topics. The sessions are mainly for cataloguers using OCLC Connexion. However, one session is available for FirstSearch and reference and may be of interest to Information Librarians.

Searching WorldCat in FirstSearch and WorldCat.org
Description:
The FirstSearch platform is the interface upon which two of OCLC’s major gateways into the WorldCat database rest: the FirstSearch reference service and the WorldCat Resource Sharing (WCRS) service. Since the searching capabilities for these two services overlap, this class seeks to give participants the necessary skills to conduct successful searches for items in WorldCat via either service on the FirstSearch platform.

Audience:
This course is intended for both reference staff engaged in research and compiling bibliographies on behalf of their patrons or for themselves, as well as ILL librarians and staff who need to accurately match their borrowing and lending requests to items available in WorldCat.

Sessions:
Friday November 20 10 am to 12 pm Register
or
Thursday November 26 10 am to 12 pm Register

Please let me know if you register for a session as we will need to set up for the conference call. Information on all seminars available in this series can be found on the NZ Cataloguers’ Wiki
