Retemplating Library website

I’m going to put up the retemplated version of the Library’s website today. If all goes well, it will only be down for a very short period of time, and then you will only notice that it has changed; if not, I should be able to switch it back fairly quickly.

When you notice it has changed, please keep a beady eye out for any pages that don’t look right, or for any information recently updated, where the update was not applied to the newly templated version.

The new template requires an updated version of Dreamweaver, so we are not automatically reinstating access for everyone who had it before. Before Christmas Anne wrote to managers explaining this and indicating that we think the number of DW licences should be considerably reduced, now that we are using blogs, wikis, and LibGuides to create so much content. If you feel you still need DW, talk to your manager.

Many thanks

Catherine

  1. As of 3:14pm –

Homepage is broken in IE though looks fine on Firefox.

The Journals page (hosted on serials solutions) is (unsurprisingly) still on the old template.

    http://library.canterbury.a
    * under "Visit us" the first bullet point is blank (is this meant to be our hours, and is blank because we’re closed for construction?)
    * links to floorplans and virtual tour are broken (might as well just remove these lines for now as we need new versions of both anyway)

Webapps-hosted pages break in the banner area, eg
    http://webapps.libr.canterb
    http://webapps.libr.canterb

  2. There are still a few problems (as well as those identified by Deborah). These should be fixed one by one. Please check again tomorrow and let me know if you find any more.

I’m working on the IE problem – UC Web team says it’s caching, but clearing the cache didn’t help me immediately.

I’ve fixed the EL page hours problem.

The webapps pages will take a bit longer – include files need to be copied back renamed and then all the programs changed to pick them up. At least the pages still work, even if they don’t look nice.

  3. Just a reminder that it is only the pages on the main library site (url beginning http:library.canterbury.ac.nz) that have been retemplated at this stage.

There are still quite a lot of areas still to be done eg most dynamic pages (url beginning http:webapps.canterbury.ac.nz), the journals page, pages created by the blog software (Library news, suggestion board etc).

The Library’s website is created in a number of different ways now (to incorporate all the Web 2.0 functionality), so retemplating is not a simple process and has to be done in a number of steps. This will happen gradually over the next few weeks.

I’m working on the dynamic pages at present, so you may see some pages where there is an extra UC logo displaying in the header. These should be mostly fixed this morning. Retemplating will come later.

If you see anything that looks wrong on the main web site please let me know ASAP.

  4. Floorplans and tours should now be available again. Please let me know ASAP if any are not.

Thanks for alerting us to this one Adam.
