Library staff are cordially invited to attend The Grand Tour Symposium, at SOFA GALLERY, The Arts Centre, on Friday 29 Jan at 3pm.
The current exhibition ‘The Grand Tour’ at SOFA gallery showcases beautiful prints from the 17th to the 19th century by notable European artists such as Piranesi, Watteau and Vernet. The prints have all come from the Macmillan Brown Library collection.
In conjunction with the exhibition a free symposium will take place on Friday 29th of January from 3pm at the SOFA gallery. There will be three short talks by Senior Lecturer David Maskill from Victoria University, Associate Professor Ian Lochhead and Senior Lecturer Emilie Sitzia (both from Canterbury University).
Topics to be addressed will include ‘Piranesi and the power of fragments’, ‘The Grand Tour: Text and Context’, and ‘Enlightenment landscapes’. There will then be a round table with time for questions from the public. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.
Come along for an afternoon of discoveries.
