Engineering Library level 1

In case anyone’s curious what the ground floor of level 1 has been like this summer, photos after the break…

(Larger versions of these images are in Q:\Deborah\2009_Construction starting with 100114- The same folder also has other photos of the construction.)

Here’s the view from our front entrance gates. The plastic and hoardings block access to the stairs and the part of level 1 that’s being renovated. All the journals are in the stack to the right. Tables and chairs were moved here from old discussion rooms and casual reading spots. I’m not sure what the boards are but the shelves behind are our temporary recently returned shelves – for books that belong to areas we can’t easily shelve in.

The view from the lift. The hoarding has come further to the left than originally intended, and that stack of books had to be moved down from level 3 suddenly one day.

This is a ladder left by an electrician; more chairs; and computers covered in plastic. There’s some electrical wire hanging down somewhere out of sight. The stacks currently run, from the far end:

  • HE books;
  • TC-VM journals;
  • DVDs and a few bays full of bookends;
  • HE-TA journals;
  • TH books.

Pink slips are in the journals (to the left) to remind us where to leave extra space when we shift the journals to mobile shelving. One of the stacks further left has a swivel armchair in it and another has a display cabinet.

Add in a thick dusty smell and the constant sound of drilling and you get a good idea of what our level 1 is like. 🙂
