We have made some significant progress on Summon in the last week. The catalogue is now fully up-to-date. The date sorting seems to be working properly and the 245$b is indexing (title). There are still some problems with the Library of Congress subject headings. DSpace and Digital Library are not yet available. The problem linking to full text in Ebsco databases were it does a title search instead of linking to the item should be fixed by 26 Feb. The current priorities are to get the records updated for the EPS Library and the subject headings fixed. Please continue to report issues to Library IT. Thanks, Anne
It seems that some brief records remain on Summon when they have been replaced with another full record. For example, A celtic song cycle (bib no. 1154135) is there as a full record however the brief record is also there (bib. no. 801329 – but no longer on Horizon). Is this just a timing or update issue?
When you say the catalogue is now fully up-to-date is it now updating from Horizon daily?
Thanks, Alison W.
I have noticed that a search can retrieve duplicate records. For example searching on Chromatin retrieved two identical records from Nature
Peter tells me that deletions are not working at the moment, he will also do some testing on how long it takes for the new and changed records to get indexed.
Duplicates are difficult to remove, particularly for short records. Hopefully as Summon evolves they will get better at merging or dedupping them.
Cheers, Anne
I was amused that two separate speakers at the VALA conference repeated the same Lord of the Rings joke about Summon.
"One box to rule the world"
I plan to repeat this joke in my teaching sessions.
The whole world? Well they’re a little way there – Seems to be returning results from Erasmus University at the moment…
Apparently a jolly good university so not a bad place to start.
OOoo – there’s lots there now..
Summon is currently searching libraries other than Canterbury. This has been reported to SS Cheers, Anne
Central Library is now represented on the Huddersfield site as well. Anne
Please can we have an option to restrict articles to english only?
and I have a result that says we have full text online when we don’t
Record:

Please send Library IT some examples where the English facet (bottom left) is not working. Thanks Anne
ah ha
Missed that facet!
Are there other optional facets that can be applied?
The advanced search is slightly different but there are no other facets yet. Other sites have asked for a geographic one. I have reported the issue above where it says "full text online" for print holdings. This probably occurs because we have added our print holdings to 360 Link. Cheers, Anne
