Summon Update – 11 Mar

There have been a number of changes with Summon this week
• UC Research Repository is now available for searching. Digital Library is currently being worked on by SS.
• EPS Library – changes to Library facets are expected by Monday
• Subject headings searches – 3 separate problems have been identified
• Deleted records still appearing in Summon – no progress
• Due date now displays in availability

Please forward any comments from users to Library IT, or comment here on any concerns. Serials Solutions are actively working to fix problems. Are there any vendors that you would like to see participating in Summon, particularly from New Zealand?
Cheers, Anne

  1. Good suggestion. I have sent an email to SS asking for them to consider this database and others from National Library. Cheers, Anne

  2. I would like to be able to use it to search for articles within the Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of New Zealand rsnz.natlib.org

  3. No, Serials Solutions will not provide this information despite many requests from customers. There is a list of journals but it is too hard to use due to the size. Cheers, Anne

  4. It is interesting that SerSol (like Google Scholar) won’t provide the information at a database or package level. I suppose they see it as business competitive information. It is not a problem if you are looking for a specific item – i.e. you just search and see if it is there – but if you are looking for information on a topic it is a real pain as you don’t know which other tools you need to make use of. Some students have already said to me in their area they have compared Google Scholar and MultiSearch already and found more and more relevant information with Google Scholar but they find MultiSearch "easier to use".

  5. Interesting comment about Google Scholar and MultiSearch. I have recommended to SS that they index nzetc and nlnz databases. Cheers, Anne
