Annual Diversity Forum

The annual Diversity Forum hosted by the Human Rights Commission is being held in Christchurch this year – August 22-23. Please read below, and discuss with your manager/supervisor if you are interested in attending the entire event ($50 registration), which the Library will support. To register go to this link. For payment options, discuss with Maureen.

There is also the option to attend the library part only (no registration or fee required). Aoraki Lianza need to know if you want to attend this, so that they can communicate with you directly. Please email to Jill Richardson.

For the last 4 years Waitakere Libraries have provided invaluable leadership in establishing a library focussed event at this Forum.
See this link.

This year for the first time the organising group are partnering with Aoraki Lianza to run the library segment. Apart from this 2 hour segment on Monday 23rd, 11-1, there will be a wealth of other diversity related presentations/workshops and keynote addresses over the 2 days. Continue to check the website above for programme developments.
The aim is to continue building a conversation for librarians around issues that relate to our increasingly diverse customer base.
The Libraries Programme:
For those participants arriving on Sunday 22nd August we will be offering a tour of some key public and tertiary libraries in the afternoon.
For Monday 23rd August, 11-1, we are planning to have two brief keynote presentations relating to migrant demographics and migrant employment followed by a choice of chaired discussion groups where everyone will be encouraged to contribute. Ideas put forward so far include “connecting with your diverse communities”, “making the most of a diverse workplace”, “International students and their library experiences”, “building good community collections”. Throughout the day there will be a library kiosk where networking/sharing can continue.
This is an opportunity to gain some professional development relating to BOK 3 of your professional registration journal.

Any further questions, please talk to Erin.
