Fixed Term (August 2010 – November 2010)
Part-Time (30 Hours per Week, .8 FTE)

The University of Canterbury Library is seeking an enthusiastic part-time Library Assistant who will be based in the Macmillan Brown Library and the Education Library, both branch libraries at the University of Canterbury.

The position is responsible for providing lending and other public services for the University Library. This position is based for three days in the Macmillan Brown Library and for two days in the Education Library. There is an expectation that you will be available to work in any of the branch libraries on campus.

Previous experience with automated library systems and procedures is desirable. You will demonstrate a commitment to delivering an outstanding service to customers and have a positive attitude towards continuous improvement. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be the type of person that thrives in a dynamic environment. An understanding of Maori and Pacific information needs and services is essential. A familiarity with unpublished resources and the heritage environment would also be an advantage. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop their career in the Library profession.

The normal work schedule for this position is as follows:

Thursday 8:30am – 5:00pm
Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm
Saturday 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Sunday 10:00am – 5:00pm
Monday 11.30am – 5:00pm
