On Tuesday afternoon this week the EPS Library Project Group (PCG) was reinstated. Nick Courtney, David Lang, Gail Pattie, Peter Steel, Bruce White, Christine McKee and myself were in attendance. The tender process has been completed and Image Projects are the successful company. The contractors will start working on site on Monday 15th November.
The 1st week in February is when the commissioning work is scheduled to start in order for the project to be completed and the Library able to be open for the start of Semester 1, 2011. The contractors have been in meetings with the Architect and FM and are already working off-site on various projects that can be partially completed off campus.
However, to an already full refurbishment programme, remediation work for damage caused by the earthquake has also had to be built into the programme making a tight timeframe even tighter. There will also be some additional work carried out which includes having toilet doors fitted to help eliminate the noise problems that are being encountered.
Other meetings will be called from time to time by the Architects to work through furniture and colour scheme issues.
It is hoped that the EPS Library will remain open throughout the entire refurbishment, offering limited study spaces and limited library services from Level 1. There is a small possibility that the Library may need to close completely for a short period of time to allow the contractors full access to the site and to get some noisy work completed. Watch for further information about this as the project progresses.
Decisions about RFID, the type of furnture required, the type of gates, whether the RFID project work will be completed in time for the Semester 1 reopening will be made over the next few weeks. I will update you all as the decisions are made.
