Using the ‘Earthquake – Damaged and Lost’ dummy borrower record.

Items are issued to this record if there is clear evidence that we are not likely to ever have a particular item returned to us, or it is so badly damaged that other decision steps will need to be made by Library Support Services. Once the item has been removed from the borrower’s record, and re-issued to the ‘Earthquake – Damaged and Lost’ dummy borrower record, please remember to change the status of the item to ‘leq’ (i.e. Earthquake – Lost or not retrievable).

This step will still need to done even if the item had an ‘leq’ status on the original borrower’s record. Checking the item in to remove it from the borrower’s record removes the ‘leq’ status and it reverts back to ‘In Library’, so the status will need to be changed again after re-issue to the dummy record.

Please note that items that are simply out of reach in building with restricted access, or are otherwise irretrievable for the time being, should be left on the borrower’s record if at all possible, and the status changed to ‘leq’ to prevent it from being recalled by another borrower.

Thanks, Sandra
