Mktg 202 students have 2 weeks to complete a marketing assignment about the fast food industry, based around Domino’s Pizza in NZ. Cuiying and I have given them a detailed lecture about available resources in class and the ppt slides are on their Learn site. There’s also a topic page on the Management Guide which summarizes resources. There are some resources which will cause problems:
1. A.C. Nielsen Market Information Digest – this is a CD product that is pre-loaded onto selected PCs. It is definitely on the PC in the AV room in
Central and on two PCs at Law beside the Liaison Librarians’ office.
2. Econdata – NZ time series – this database only works using IE (not Firefox). Do a search for takeway using the Find option at the top of the screen. Statistics are also available in InfoShare from STatistics NZ
3. Factiva – has only 3 concurrent users – students may need to try again later.
None of the resources will give the full answer – the idea of the assignment is that students must find the information that is readily available and use it to write the report, also learning about researcher frustation!
Cuiying and I will be located in the Law Library from Monday, so ask the students to email us for an appointment or come over to Law.

Econdata: may give an expired licence error. Click OK and you will still get access. A new licence file was sent to us in February and I think it is in level 5 with some other unretrieved mail.
A new licence is being sent and we’ll install it – but we’ll wait until after the assignment to avoid disruption.
I have just had a student who reckoned the information on the AV computer was not enough for the project. I tried to find the actual disks which were here last week, but they are no longer here at Central. Are they in Law now?
