Interloans have been investigating ways to make interloans more efficient and easier for users. Interloans will soon start issuing at the desk for 28 days rather than 14 days. Interloans will go into the holds shelf for up to 14 days. Borrowers will be sent text alerts for Interloans holds along with the other Horizon notices. At seven days another reminder will go out saying they have 5 days to pick up the item or it will be return to the owning library. When interloans expire on the holds shelf on the 15th day they can be sent back to LSS for return.
Supply will start again on 29 August. Items will be issued for 6 weeks, and will be subject to recall after 3 weeks. Currently interloans are not recalled. More details about this later.
These sound like a great improvement to service. I’m sure our borrowers will appreciate it. 🙂 Caroline S
Does this mean that each library should be clearing expired interloan holds along with other expired holds each day?
Yes, it will mean when the changes happen that you’ll be able to pull interloans off the shelf, and check them in once they’ve expired. Either another hold slip or an in-transit slip will be generated.
