Horizon speed and running reports

eServices are getting a lot of comments at the moment that Horizon is running very slowly.

We acknowledge this and apologise. Anne has already some background work on Tuesday evening to retrieve space, and tidy up the underlying database to ensure that Horizon is running as cleanly as possible.

We believe that the problem is caused by the number of reports that are being run in the background at the moment. A lot of people are using these to get statistics about the use of the collection, ahead of an important decision making meeting on Monday. Unfortunately, these have to be run and can’t really be delayed, so the slowness may continue until then.

Could we please ask anyone else running, or contemplating running, any Horizon report to please delay this if it is at all possible, or else run it first thing in the morning (preferably before 8.30am) or after 5pm.

Do contact eServices if Horizon slows to the point of being unusable, but otherwise, we ask for your patience. We know that’s not easy when you are working in a very noisy environment!
