FAQ about Asklive changes

(ETA: Glitches continue – see comments for latest.)

1) If you’re looking for the transcripts, you’ll find them under the “Activity” tab in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. The date is US-style (month/date/year) and the chats are currently stored under the US timezone – eServices and LibraryH3lp are in conversations about this.

2) If you’re using Firefox (especially if you’re having problems with losing connections, eg not getting notified of new questions, or not getting notified when someone else picks up a question, or losing a student mid-conversation) then:

  • Go to the webchat login page
  • In the Firefox menu, < Tools < Clear recent history
  • Time range – everything
  • Tick only “cache” and click “Clear Now”
  • On the webchat login page, hold down the shift key and click the browser’s reload (blue arrow in a circle) button

3) The change password option currently doesn’t work.

4) Any other questions or problems, check the official status board or let me know.

  1. As of Wednesday evening, the login page doesn’t work on Internet Explorer. You can log in on Firefox though you may encounter glitches (losing connections with students mid-chat, being logged off entirely….)

Current suggested alternatives (neither will allow transfers but hopefully will deal more robustly with chats) are:
    1) set up Pidgin (from Start>All programs) according to the instructions at http://wiki.canterbury.ac.n

    2) Go to https://www.meebo.com/messe… and click on the "jabber" option with the lightbulb. Login with your.name@libraryh3lp.com and your normal password

Please keep letting me know of any problems. Will update when I’ve heard back from LibraryH3lp.

  2. Thursday morning: you can log in via Internet Explorer again.

Still investigating the issues in Firefox – might be something we can fix with how our network’s set up. In the meantime Meebo or Pidgin should still be options.

  3. Later Thursday morning: They’ve identified a bug in the webchat on Firefox 3.5.x (what we use) and will be rolling out a fix "tonight" (US time). In the meantime they recommend IE.

  4. Belated Friday update: the problem this morning seems to have been only on my machine – AskLive is now working fine on Firefox. 🙂

To make sure all the fixes make their way to your computer, follow the instructions under #2 above. After that hopefully everything should work like a charm – let me know if not.

Date/times in the transcripts also seem to be fixed.
