Workroom Assistants can provide help as follows:
General support and guidance relating to software packages on the student computers (but they do not help with specific assignment problems – these students are referred back to their lecturer). In the main the packages are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and web browser.
First level analysis of hardware problems including placing workstations out of order
Checking printers are filled with paper during their shift and consumables checked as well as monitoring all the workroom print queues remotely. And they can deal with general printer problems.
Supervision tasks – that is, ensuring the computer areas are functioning quietly and in an orderly way.
During their shift they are entitled to a short break and this is indicated by a ‘back at …’ sign.
They can log any service request into SDE so even if they cannot immediately solve the problem they can capture & record the details and the incident will be attended to on the next business day.
No, they cannot do password changes.
The contact telephone number is 4060
And lastly, they finish for the term on Friday and start again on Monday 23 April.
