Fines on overdue material have been back in operation since the 23rd January 2012. Work has been ongoing to review lost books and fines prior to this with the following decisions now made;
All fines prior to 23/1/2012 have been waived and removed from the user records. The information is still retained in the users history. Fines that are generated after the 23/1/2012 still stand and need to be paid.
A number of users still have items out that went to lost prior the 23/1/2012. We are in the process of contacting them to see if the items are lost due to EQ damage and if not to ask for them to be returned. If items are returned then the associated fines should be waived.
The list of items which have been removed from borrowers records as a result of the earthquake (damaged or still within red zone areas) will or have been given to the Liaison librarian team who then make the decision to recommend the purchase of a replacement copy. The majority of borrowers being contacted by staff do have the books, so the return is likely. If items in this category are not returned then the borrower will be charged for the item.
Any questions please ask.
