The LAWS 110 class (around 370 students) have received their second essay topic. The essay is concerned with the case – Hoani Te Heuheu Tukino v Aotea District Maori Land Board [1941] NZLR 590.
Students have been told that they are expected to research this topic, but they will still ask for help both at the desk and on AskLive. We can offer guidance but please don’t do the work for them.
The best starting point for them is to read the case. It is available from the New Zealand Law Reports online from the Law Guide and in paper copy in the Law Library (take care when searching, as Hoani is often not included in the case name). They should also find books on the Treaty of Waitangi, or on NZ legal history (for general information, and also comment on the case). This is only the beginning! But for further guidance, please refer them to a Law Liaison Librarian (Sue, Sara or Margaret).
Many thanks,
Sara
