Summon now allows the creation of search boxes limited to specific disciplines. According to Serials Solutions, each item in the Summon index is assigned one or more disciplines based on associated subject terms and/or call numbers. The discipline scoped searches will limit to results from disciplines specified at the item-level, rather than broader database-level disciplines. Discipline facets can’t be accessed via the standard Summon interface, so it would be interesting to see how the search results compare.

Searches can also be customised to limit to specific facets (e.g. just journal articles or journal articles from scholarly publications only, etc).
