Anton started work with the Library Support Services Team yesterday. Over the coming weeks he will be visiting UC Libraries and getting to know as many of you as he can. He has previously been employed by the Otago University with the ICT team so the Library world is relatively new to him. We are really pleased to welcome Anton and to have a him begin work on the management of the Research Repository.
Anton has provided a brief summary. If there was one word that would sum me up, that would be ‘eclectic’. I know that’s a bit of semantic cheating, but it’s about as good as it gets. I’m a Dunedin boy (though born in Gore) who has spent 10 years working in London during the dot.com boom and accidentally fell into working with computers. I have undergrad degrees in Neuropsychology and Social Anthropology, and I’m finishing off my MIS through Victoria – I only have my research project left. I’ve done a lot of IT project management and account management, and I moved into libraries because that’s where all the interesting stuff is happening. I love playing euro-style board games (especially co-operative ones), going to the roller derby, cats, the national programme and reading trashy space opera. I’ve done a lot of work with community radio in the past, and at some point I’ll look at getting a slot on Plains FM, if they’ll have me.
My partner, Maria, is staying down in Dunedin for the time being, so we’ll be flying up and down a lot.
