Glen Walker – Liaison Librarian

Kia ora everyone, I just wanted to thank everyone for giving me such a warm welcome in my first week or so. I’ve really enjoyed catching up with familiar faces and meeting new people.

For those who may be interested; I worked most recently as manager of the public libraries in the Selwyn District and was in that role for 6 and half years. Before that I was… here! I was the IT Librarian for the old CCE and become a Reference Librarian at UC Education Library after the merger, leaving in 2007.

I have also had a variety of other jobs and roles, including a term as president of LIANZA, and I am currently working on a group to re-design public library statistics and sitting on an advisory committee for National Library about public lending rights.

Some people will know about my interest in TV and Film, including a particular affinity with Doctor Who. I do a bit of woodwork as a hobby and between ‘useful’ projects I’ve been known to make things like Daleks and TARDISes and odds and ends (some more odd than others). I also enjoy a bit of creative writing and last year a play of mine was dramatised and broadcast on RadioNZ which was a great thrill.

My role here is as a Liaison Librarian, and I will be based 3 days a week on Lvl 5 and 2 days (Wed+Thu) at Education; and liaison with the Sports and Physical Education/Sport Coaching folk. Another part of my role is to help co-ordinate our Information Literacy work so I’m looking forward to this year and getting up to speed with everything the UC Libraries offer.
