We need some feedback and a tidy-up from you.
Some years ago ICTS gave us space on their network for us to host a Scratch drive (now R:\). The intention was that it be used for non-business related files of a temporary nature e.g. photos of work functions, etc. Business related files should be on the K: drive.
The network on which this resides is being closed down and we are unlikely to get a replacement.
So, if you use the R:\ drive, could you let me know how important it is to you and when it goes, what sort of problems will it cause. Can you think of other ways of meeting your needs?
As for tidying up – please have a look at R:\ and remove anything you no longer need. If there are items there that more appropriately should be somewhere on the K:\ drive, now would be a good time to move them
While R:\ was never intended to be secure, it was backed-up. However, from early March ICTS will no longer be able to create backups of this area.
Thanks, Peter K
The R drive is very useful for staff who work on shared computers/Information Desks. It means we can take screenshots of particular problems to follow up on after our desk shift, work on files during quiet periods at the desk without cluttering up the shared computer, and access files quickly on shared computers without having to log in under our username. These files tend to be not the kind you’d put on the K drive, and/or files that get moved to the K drive once finalized. It would be good if we could have some kind of alternative R drive if possible.
The impracticality of accessing files kept on S: and P:, at the Info Desk for example, means that the R: is a very useful and readily accessible area to work in. I agree with Fiona in that some of the folder content may still be in draft form, or is being used as a convenient place to store screen shots temporarily – neither use really has a place on K:. An alternative option would be welcome.
I agree with Sandra and Fiona. It is useful when working on docs on the Info desks that are not appropriate to have in K drive. The Library could buy the Co-ordinators/Supervisors an ipad instead!
I’ve tended to use R quite a lot, particularly for messing around with spread sheets I want to reformat and that sort of ‘play’ space. It could happen elsewhere but I’ve got a bit to review to move it elsewhere.
