Library Catalogue Maintenance scheduled for Wednesday 28th May (approx 8:30-10:30am)

Hi all

We’ll be attempting to fix the current index/search problems we’ve been having with the library catalogue tomorrow morning.
The fix has worked well on our test catalogue so we anticipate it will mean an end to the keyword/course code search problems of late.

While we’re working on it, the catalogue will be down for a short time tomorrow, around 8:30am.

Once it comes back up, searching will be inaccurate for around an hour as we rebuild the keyword/course code indexes.

We’ll put an article up on Library News, a slide on the website, and will also put text into the home page of the catalogue stating that searches may be unreliable for a time.

We suggest you advice patrons to use multi-search instead of the catalogue while we’re working on it. Be aware that you may need to help borrowers locate items and place requests on their behalf. Title alphabetical searches should still work throughout the process

For the very brief time the catalogue is down (we’re talking a few minutes only, at the beginning of the process) requesting will not work (through Horizon) and patrons will be unable to log in to their library accounts.

Thanks for your patience.

Romy

  1. Just to clarify, we’re talking about the OPAC/HIP here rather than Horizon (though requesting in Horizon will be down for a couple of minutes at 8:30ish when we stop and restart the catalogue and you may see the middle-tier error message if you happen to be logging in to Horizon at that very moment)
